The idea to have a family reunion came during Christmas 2017. A small group of cousins initially discussed having a small family dinner for the descendants of Nannie May Hopson. Due to unforeseen circumstances and the spread of the coronavirus the event was canceled.

In early 2022 after the funeral of a close family friend a few family members gathered at Lurine Pearman’s house to visit with her. Seeing the joy in his Grandmother Lurine at having family together sparked an idea in Moshe Pearman to contact the original family members of the 2017 group to discuss reviving the family dinner. This started the preparation of the Legacy Dinner for the summer of 2023. A planning committee was developed and was represented by family members of Nannie’s children Henry, Raymond, Lurine, Irene (Faye), and Danny Ray.

The Legacy Dinner 2023 was originally for Nannie’s family members but expanded to include the addition of extended family members. By the conclusion of The Legacy Dinner, it was apparent from everyone’s comments and responses, this was a long time coming and when will the next event happen. This was the beginning of The Legacy Reunion. The goal is to have a reunion every two to three years to re-connect.

The purpose of The Legacy Reunion wasn’t only to gather the descendants of Will and Bell so everyone can meet but also build a network of relatives as a resource tool for our family. As a family, we have relatives across various careers, businesses and industries that can share their knowledge to help another family member achieve their life goals. We encourage everyone to attend the reunion.
